First of all, a big thank you for your interest in volunteering with animals and for visiting this site.  We hope you enjoy your visit.

There are a lots of ideas of ways to get involved in the animal world dotted around the site, however much time you have - plus questions for you to consider as you decide how to contribute.  Some of these are on-offs e.g. registering your support for a campaign or petition; others may become part of your daily ritual

Potential outcomes for you are..
  • You take action - as many actions as you like, to volunteer with or for animals
  • A reflection on your own motivations for getting involved
  • You'll challenge your comfort zone if you want to, by doing something you haven't done before or trying something which makes you feel uncomfortable or feel a nervous blast of adrenalin at first
  • You try out new things and discover something new you really enjoy, or are interested in, or are good at
  • You learn more about the animal world and those organisations involved in it
  • You can reflect on where your aspirations lie to make a difference in future
You can really change the world if you care enough

So what sorts of information does this site include?
  • Some are quite simple - spreading the word to people whom you think would be interested - every hand, paw, hoof, scale, feather & wing helps
  • Challenging ideas and views people may hold e.g. Yes, you can find care homes which take pets (to all those people who are convinced that you can't)
  • Getting informed & discovering more about the charities working in the animal world & delving into their web sites to find out what they're doing and ways to get involved
  • Ways in which you can challenge your lifestyle habits, even for just a few days, to see if you can make changes which may help the animal world and discover how difficult or easy it is to take on such changes in the long term
  • Campaigns and petitions you may want to sign up to - every voice counts
  • Ideas on donating to or raising money for charities
  • Discovering how animal charities are teaching and training people to take better care of their animals
  • Finding out how charities are trying to resolve situations where there is conflict between animals and people
  • How you really can help animals 20,000 miles away online
Each action you take has the potential to hit a button and lead you to want to do more for the animal world - you may come across an organisation which is doing work that makes you think, "I want to get involved in that".  And we've included organisations which are UK based, US based and elsewhere based; many of them have an international reach.

All creatures great and small

You'll see that many of the animals on this site tend to be of the larger, well known species - the elephant, the big cat, the primate, the panda - and some may say, well, what about the tinies?  We have more info & pages to come to ensure we cover all creatures great and small - but meantime, many of those animals we've started off with are umbrella species - the area they need to survive and survive well is sufficiently large that, in caring for them and ensuring they have the right habitat, we are also caring for millions of other smaller species who live in the same postcode or zip

Are we on the green/climate change agenda?

Our main concern is with the animal world.  We're not here to go on about being green or climate change, although clearly animals are affected by climate change, whether it is happening or not.  We tend to look at what the animals are showing us & doing, and take the lead from their behaviour and how it's changing to determine our thoughts on the subjects.

Animals don't lie;  they have no political, economic or social agenda.  They act and behave the way they do to survive, not to win votes, produce a profit, acquire a title, enjoy leisure pusuits, or for any other reason.

North, south, east and west, animals are fighting to meet the challenges posed both by nature & mankind. The least we can all do is to help them, if not for their sakes then for our own, for animal, plant and human wellbeing are all interlinked & dependent on each other
