New ways to volunteer

There are many things each of us can do to cut back on the earth's resources we use - and in many cases, our own bills.  This means choosing to use natural resources & recycling them, rather than buying new

Manchester Police already do this using manure from their own horses.  These horses produce 12 tonnes of horse manure a month and rather than doing nothing with it, the police force are using it to generate energy and cut heating bills - so saving the tax payer money. If you don't have any horses, ponies, donkeys or goats to hand, you can always buy manure.  You need a log burning or open fire at home & a brick mould or briquette maker.

The best year we ever had for roses at home was in 1976, the year of the drought when homes in Jersey were almost on standpipes.  But my mother swears that one of the reasons why the roses were so good was because of our ready supply of horse manure.  Here's an article on horse manure & how to compost it
